The standard form builder we use in our Craft CMS websites is called Formie. This is a third party plugin that offers extensive configuration options and an easy to use form builder. The scope of options can sometimes be a little overwhelming, but we'll usually take care of these on your behalf, but of course you may wish to create your own forms as use cases changes.
You may also wish to count the number of form submissions on your site (sometimes across multiple forms) in Google Analytics so you can compare metrics over time, and even compare the performance or usage of each form.
If you create a new form, this level of tracking won't be enabled by default, so this article will show you the simple step to enable this on each Formie form used on your website.
Note: there is some configuration set up needed in both Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics that are pre-requisites to this. In most cases, we'll have already set this up for you. If you're not sure, please get in touch and we'll be able to confirm all the correct settings are in place.
Enable Form Submission Event Counts using Formie in Google Analytics
Open Formie in your CMS. This will list all the forms used on your site.

Select the form you wish to track in Google Analytics by clicking on the form name. Click on the submit button (note this could have customised text) at the end of the form.

Enable the JavaScript Events in the Advanced tab as shown below.

The default settings that appear can be left as they are (in fact, we'd rather you don't change them but if you feel you need to, please ask us for advice), so simply click apply, and then save the changes by clicking the Save button in the top right corner.
Google Analytics will now count the standard
form_submit event each time the form is submitted which can then be filtered using the formId (the form name) to show comparisons or to allow for experiments between forms. With the data now in GA, it can be viewed in the standard Analytics reports, custom explorations, or shown in more customisable Google Data Studio reports.
